Tech
When I lived in Miami, I found myself ritually making my way over to the local makerspace, where well-known and emerging artists alike gathered to home in on their craft head-down or experiment with something new. With plenty of materials and resources at my disposal, I discovered I had an obsession with 3D printing and modeling.
I decided to bite the bullet and invest in my own 3D printer. I wanted to take my love of costume making - something that I had always enjoyed as a kid - further.
My goal is to eventually join an organization called the 501st Legion, an international fan-run group dedicated to the construction and wearing of screen-accurate replicas of costumes and armor from the Star Wars universe. Members from the 501st Legion voluntarily dedicate their own time and resources to perform costumed charity work. With my love of artmaking meeting at an intersection with giving back to the local community, I can see no better way to put my passions to use.
Tech is the character whose costume I am currently working on.
In total, there are 39 pieces in this photo.
Not pictured: the overflowing box of misprints and iterations due to failed prints, poor fit, and trial and error.
